Your "quick fix" is harmless (as long as your shim is merely stabilizing the bottom board, not lifting the entire piano off one or more casters). The proper fix bringing in your piano tilter, and adding screws to secure the bottom board to case & frame. Fix any cracks in the bottom board with I-brackets. As you can see, even these procedures are quick fixes compared to properly repairing any cracks in the bottom board, plugging and redrilling original screw holes, etc. It is a Lester spinet, so perhaps not necessary to sell a "perfect" repair.Patrick Draine On Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 9:03 AM, Jim Keaney <pianotuna at comcast.net> wrote: > At last when I removed the pedal spring I noticed that the squeak was > coming from the bottom board on the piano. > All I could think to do was to prop up the bottom board from underneath the > piano, and the squeak disappeared.
