Hmm.. that makes two of you on the stiffness in the treble bit... and
one that bets is a laminated section. This is a 50 year old plus
piano.. Knudsen... a previous local make.. RC boards... dried usually
to no more then nominal winter dry here... which is about 25 % RH. At
least thats what the last guy who worked for them who knew anything
about their construction told me. He showed me a set of unused ribs for
their last model... a 110 or so upright.

In anycase... Looks like the laminated crowned soundboard Terry and I
put together for my experiment a year back wasnt such a bad idea....
btw... tonal problems with the bass area are worked out on that with
good advice from Ron Overs. I'll have more on that later.

I'll give this old Knudsen a good look at and see if I can determine
whether or not the section in question is laminated or not.

Cool

Cheers

I'll bet you that that part is laminated to give it more stifness.
Fazioli do laminate the treble part of their souncboard to give it
more crown and stifness. I was surprised to see the caul they use to
give it more crown in that section. They had about 3/4" crown for a
foot of rib. That is done before the ribbing by the way.
