tax deductions

Julia,

professional dues are completely deductible, as are conference expenses EXCEPT meals are restricted to some percentage, I believe 50%

I strongly suggest you buy some good tax software and a J.K. Lasser book and do your homework, OR you can pay a tax professional, but I think it is better to be educated yourself. TurboTax Business is worth every penny.

As a self-employed individual, you need to know every possible deduction you can take, and there are many, one of the advantages of being self-employed.

Julia

I believe when it says, "but does not include professional organizations, etc", it is meant to say that 100% of those can be deducted.

The entire trip to MARC, including your expenses to and from, hotel and meals, and registration, are 100% deductable on your schedule C. If there isn't a specific place for dues, there should be a "other", or "miscellaneous" line somewhere.

Subject: Sched C, line 24b of Federal Inome tax

Greetings,

If I went to the MARC in April, can I deduct the whole price of the convention paid to PTG or 50% of it there? In the 1040 instruction book, first it states that you cant deduct fees of a club or association such as a golf or country club reguardless where professional friends socialising, then in the same paragraph, it states that "But this does not include...proffessional orgs, business leagues and trade associations. So is it 50% of the MARC fee to deduct or what? Also, what line on Schedule C do I deduct regular PTG national and local dues? These instructions are not specific.

Thank You,
Julia Gottshall
