When the problem of a reduced height between keybed and pinblock, making it imposible to withdraw the action, was described on here some weeks ago, I thought "Well, that's probably something I'll never come across". This afternoon I did! I wanted to pull the action to check the regulation of a note and to check a problem with damper lift, and couldn't. You can see the grooves cut in the underside of the pinblock by the top of the drop screws, where someone in the past has forced the action out. It's now beyond even forcing. If I need to pull the action out on a future visit, I will have to file 88 little grooves! Sorry about the poor picture quality. The piano is a Steimeyer, looks 1930s or maybe a bit older.
