Jack, In this situation we use a smaller caul along with an appropriately thick shim. This only works with Spurlock's two caul method. So let's say you need a finished bushing for a .142 pin. Use the intermediate and final cauls for .137 inserting a precut .005 shim in the mortise along side the caul, opposite the side that you are currently glueing. I wander the shop and office with my thickness gauge checking various papers, notecards, photos, and envelopes until I find the correct thickness. I then slice these up into one quarter inch by two inch strips (approximately) to use as my supplemental cauls. What do you do in this situation? Do you special order cauls or can you make them yourself? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
