No Doubt your right about that. I restored an erard for a woman a few years back. The shanks were in good shape, but old wood is old wood. As I remember it, I think the shank can be cut from maple using a CNC router, but I can't remember the flange. I work on some vintage pianos with vellum flanges, but I believe this one was pinned. I finished several Erards over the past 2 years and I check high and low for someone to duplicate a set. No takers. This is one type of shank that the entire global piano industry could benefit from.
