Gregor,

Many years ago, perhaps before you were born, men wore business suits and dress shirts.These shirts had a slot on the back side of the front collar, and you could slip a thin plastic strip in. The plastic strip was the "collar stay" because it would make the collar stay flat.

This was a long time ago, before Al Gore invented the internet and destroyed the piano industry as the center of entertainment for the home. Just kidding.
