It makes sense on the surface but I wonder just how many coats are required to really make it opaque. I probably put 3-5 light coat. My unofficial observations concur with Al that it makes the color a bit warmer. If it isn't, the red paint under it will enhance the look. Red paint is recommended under a gold leafing project. I don't do plate reguilding, but I'm sure that some manufacturers use red primer under the gold. I believe green can also be used under gold.
