Delwin, You just reminded me of the first good stereo that I boght. You drove me over there in your Porsh and gave me a wild ride on the way home. Those were the days, many moons ago. I never did have a Bose sound system in my shop. Before I got married my old house-mate (Larry Erbes) bought a set of Bose speakers that we used with my old Dynaco amp and pre-amp. (Which I wish I still had!) But except on rare occasions when we were showing off it was never cranked up all that loudly. When I got married and he moved out I replaced the Bose speakers with a set that I designed and built up from raw drivers. Those went up in flames when we had our house fire and were replaced with another set I designed and built myself. As are the speakers I have now-Usher drivers in my own cabinets. I've never been much on overly loud music. I mostly keep it no louder than the orchestra would be from about 15 to 20 rows back. Or an acoustical jazz group might be in a typical jazz club. Which is, I suppose, louder than most folks would have it set for background music. But hardly enough to cause permanent hearing damage. That came from my own stupidity-not wearing adequate hearing protection in my own shop and, later, in factories. ddf Delwin D Fandrich Piano Design & Fabrication 620 South Tower Avenue Centralia, Washington 98531 USA fandrich at pianobuilders.com Phone 360.736.7563 From: pianotech-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:pianotech-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Joseph Garrett Sent: Friday, December 18, 2009 12:16 AM To: pianotech Subject: [pianotech] Selective Memory...was ...Re: OT Sounds, Noise. our noisy world yada yada Del, The problem with olde people, (and I include myself in this), is that they have very selective memory. Thirty+ years ago, when you and I were playing Musical Shops, I recall you had a Bose Sound System that would/could/did Buckle Your Knees! (And I think your neighbors, as well.<G>) Even though you played Classical and Jazz, it was still a "killer system"! Such is the snobbish B.S. of the Classical Crowd as well! Most Club type venues are at 110db to 120db, while the output of modern Orchestras are somewhere in the 140db range! Yes, Classical musicians are having hearing problems in droves and refuse to admit that they are LOUD! Hypocritical IMHO!<G> Joe Joe Garrett, R.P.T.
