You don't necessarily need to sharpen them, but they will clog up when you use them a lot. I would suggest you wipe them clean with a soft cloth and perhaps a little alcohol.

Subject: [pianotech] broaches for flange bushing

Hello List,

Do the roughened areas of broaches used for flange bushing need to be sharpened periodically?

I’m in the middle of re-pinning a set of hammer flanges and it seems some of the broaches cut better than the others. If yes, what’s the best way to sharpen them.

Thanks,

David Weiss
