[pianotech] c clamp UPDATE

Hi.
Well it did not go as expected but I now have a clamp that works to remove Pedal pins and will still be useful for other clamping jobs.
The unexpected thing was twofold; The clamp has a centering divot in the flex screw end so there was no need to change it.
And the Dermal ( Used my Fordom)  only worked to clean out the kerf that was cut in the other side of the clamp.
Any one need one made? <G>

  I was using a clamp with the hole for the pin. But I neglected to dimple the moving flat surface on the end of the screw, so the pin bent when installing.
  I was thinking on either brazing that part solid, and actually drilling a hole to accommodate the pin for say 1/4", so that it is supported. This would eliminate the off centering, and lessen the chance of bending. 
  The pin isn't put in flush anyway.
  The hole would be drilled so that the pin fits freely. Are the pins a standard size?
  I also thought about removing the 'wobbly' bit, and just drilling the centre of the screw part.

    While reading through an old Journal ( June 2003, page 10) a tool was described that would make it easier to remove the pedals without taking off the bottom board.

     

    However, during the description of the tool used to remove the pedal pivot pin, several critical items were left out.

    For example, how big do you make the hole.what size drill bit is required?  3/8" ??

     

    How can anyone get a good ,FLAT< drilling surface when trying to drill through the "top part of the clamp body"?

     

    Mr. Nereson, RPT of Denver uses this tool, and it sounds like a great idea.  But, could I get some more details, please?
