Greetings,
In reading the articles, specifically Part 1 article in August 2003
of PTG Journal, of Owen Jorgensen's, he states there (p32) that: ..."the
structure of well temperaments is that the chords that are most used are tempered
as harmoniously as possible...the keys of CM, FM and GM should be tempered
most pure". Now reading the charts from rollingball, are the opposite, CM, FM
and GM have tempered 5ths and the Black keys' 5ths are tuned pure. Although
the article is discussing the C-E in CMajor, the F-A in FMajor and the G-B in
GMajor, which are the M3ds of those keys. Is this to say/indicate that when
the M3d's are pure the P5ths are to end up tempered?
Why are the P5ths tempered in those (C, F & G) commonly used keys, yet
the article states that they should be the most pure keys? Shouldn't it be
the opposite? Namely, the black keys be tempered then?
Am I missing something here?
Thanks,
Julia Gottshall
