This is one thing that Vince Mrykalo and I have both been doing for about 3 months now and it REALLY works well. Proceed slowly.

Paul, Jim and Jon, thank you for the additinoal comments on VS Profelt.

Clearly it doesn't do much for worn centres! 

What a very interesting suggested, though, about trying it in compacted 
hammer grooves for voicing.

  I've been using a hypo-oiler recently to apply Protek CLP to string 
underfelt on some older grands, and I find that quickly running my fine 
hypo-oiler along each string leaves a very fine line of CLP which 
quickly wicks in under the string.  I imagine that it might work 
similarly if carefully applied to hammer grooves with VS Profelt.

I'll have to get some VS Profelt to try it out!
