When I put my hands firmly over all of the bass strings, the sound ceases.

Describe the reverb. Are the dampers not working, or is there just a lot of overall noise, which could very well be the sound of the strings after they're dampened, caused by the wood floors, windows, etc. etc.

Way too much reverb coming from the bass section in a 1987 Steinway K, seemingly since the piano moved to a new home. Small room, wood floor and floor-to-ceiling cabinets, high windows across the wall opposite the piano, two open doors, very little fabric about.

I’ve been following the thread “Dampers in the high treble” and have picked up a few ideas there. Any other suggestions from your experiences?

Thank you,
