The Yamaha G2 is 5¹8². The G series was the lower of the two series offered at that time (The C or Conservatory pianos were the better line). Here in DC we have many G and C models that are gray market, not built for the North American market, and invariably they have extremely low torque on tuning pins throughout. I have seen at least one confirmed gray market upright that had warped case parts. Those problems might not show up in Hawaii, since your climate would resemble that of Japan. Not sure about current market value for a G2 from 66, but I was told about 5 years ago here by a dealer/rebuilder that a 1982 G2 would be worth about $5K to him. If I remember correctly, that was what he would sell it for after reconditioning. -- Paul Milesi Registered Piano Technician (RPT) Piano Technicians Guild (202) 667-3136 (202) 246-3136 Cell E-mail: paul at pmpiano.com Website: http://www.pmpiano.com Address: 3000 7th Street NE, Apt. 204 Washington, DC 20017-1402 From: <wimblees at aol.com> Reply-To: <pianotech at ptg.org> Date: Sat, 16 Jan 2010 22:55:43 -0500 To: <Pianotech at PTG.org> Subject: [pianotech] Yamaha G2 What's the size of the G2? Was this the better of Yamaha's grands, or their lower end models? This one is from '66, satin ebony, in general good conditions, except that the bass strings area little tubby, and there is some rust on the string, because it's within 100 yards of the ocean. Any idea of value? Wim -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://ptg.org/pipermail/pianotech.php/attachments/20100117/442537e2/attachment.htm>
