I am waiting for universal RFID to come into common use, capable of being
read by our handhelds.

I'm very new to tuning/repair and don't have field experience yet, but
here's an idea: how about one of those (self adhesive) library pockets
attached inside the piano with an index card with the date and name of the
technician that serviced it last? That way there's no personalized info on
there, but still the tech that's doing the next service gets a quick
overview about what was done. We used a similar system in our classroom
(worked as paraeducator before).

The only mark I leave in a piano is my FAC numbers in pencil. I like the
idea of a service record but the only way it will stay with the piano is if
it doesn't have the tuner's logo on it. I have been trying a little
envelope stuck to the bottom of the music desk/grands and inside of music
desk/uprights. Inside is a generic service record, no logos and the
customer knows about it. All the writing...graffiti... on the plate etc.
is unnecessary in my opinion. Leaving biz cards is just fine, but they
will go in the pocket of the next tech...
