Seems like every screwdriver, awl, knife, or drill bit I pick up is festooned with what looks like a metal shavings crew cut. Even things that haven't been near magnets to my knowledge are magnetized and fuzzy with fine filings. When I'd like to use an edged tool that isn't covered with edge eating dust, I degauss it with a magnetic tape bulk eraser and start over. Ron N
