Ed, I agree that this Bally's South tower rooms (which are on the North end of the hotel complex - figure that out!) are not the nicest I've been in. My first room was in pretty poor condition, but I moved after the first night and got one much better on a higher floor. If it's not too much hassle, you could ask them to move you, because now (Monday) a lot of non-PTG people will be checking out. Take it from someone who is on the road a lot: I've had experiences like you are having, where things just seem to come together in a bad way and the little annoyances pile on top of one another to make it seem not worth it. But it does pay off to complain (in a nice way) sometimes. Don't wait in the regular registration line, though - just go the "Platinum" line to let them know the room isn't good. At the least, the should fix things that are broken. I've been annoyed by the restaurant prices as well, and with my schedule here (and my 'Company Man' suit and tie clothing) it's not practical to head outside to eat meals. It's, um, REALLY hot outside! The 'Nosh" restaurant has some good deals, and I've been having a simple Bagel breakfast I'm going to check on that "Ellis Island" restaurant - thanks, Paul. I hope you will come to the banquet and stay for the piano concert afterwards! Some great music played by a great pianist, John Chen. It costs. Bally has internet access, it costs. Yes, Bally has restaurants, they are EXPENSIVE!! You can go to a kiosk in the morning and get coffee, 2 muffins and an orange juice for your self and your wife, but it will cost you $22.00. One restaurant is offering a "dining experience" for $65 a plate. You can get a slice of pizza and a drink for about $15. The drinks are free if you are playing the slots, but otherwise a rum and coke will set you back NINE DOLLARS!!! I had hoped to stay through Tuesday, but am considering going home early to avoid going totally broke. The convention is great, with great instructors, and lots of camaraderie, good exhibits, good company, and a really supportive spirit. It's a shame that I have gotten into the mind set of watching my dollar bills instead of just enjoying the convention, but this place has decided to ratchet up prices and the consequences be damned. Also, the key cards don't work very well. It takes a lot of patience to get your door unlocked; the hot water spigot in the bathroom sink has come off, the towel rack for the shower is loose and dangling, and the moulding around the shower tube has come off. I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH BALLY HOTEL!!!!!! BUT.... the convention is first rate and a wonderful inspiration. Kudos to the exhibitors, the instructors, and the organizing and host chapter. You all "done good!!" The Bally hotel sucks. Ed Carwithen going home to Oregon -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
