[pianotech] Fitting the new Casters

Hi David,

Well, shucks, I guess I could have made either a big hole or several smaller holes with the drill press and then made the recess square using the oscillating tool. I'll remember that next time--if there is one. (Blush.) I even have a nice, big drill press that has the easy to use handle adjustment for the table--I hope it's not feeling neglected.

But, the point of sharing the job was to point out another great use of the oscillating tool--Fein Multimaster, Dremel Multi-max, or other knock-offs.

I've attached pictures of the blade I used. It is offset--the deeper I went, the more careful I had to be about not hanging up on the edge of the leg. At the end I used it sort of like a motorized scraper. I was sitting in front of my workbench with the (piano) leg propped up on a plastic tool case. I should have moved to my other work space and rigged up my dust control system, but instead, I stopped and used the vacuum to clean out the saw dust/chips. I rationalized that the tool, not intended for industrial use, needed to stop fairly often so it wouldn't over heat.

I ended up adding a lock washer, because without one, the supplied nut and washer would get loose <too> often. Maybe there was supposed to be one included in the kit, but I didn't see a reference to one in the directions. You know, those directions that you look at not before you use the tool, but after you're using it and something isn't right.

Hey Barb,

Just curious...and I'm probably missing something. Could you use a drill press to make the hole? Or a forstner bit..?
