FYI ... my finger tips began splitting in early winter (2010), as they have
for the last few winters. I figure there must be a better way than always
having to use tape as a healing medium. So I started trying hand lotion
again. More often applied, and working it into the fingertip area around the
nails. It's called Renew, made by Melalecua. Every morning and every
evening, and more if I'm at home during the day.

It prevented splits for over a month until just this week. I've been working
long hours, and not applying it during the work hours. One split has
returned. So I'm gonna start taking the lotion with me during the work days.

Now, Ron, I know you're gonna say you don't like lotions -- cause you said
that last year. <g>

But, for me, I'd rather deal with occasionally slimy hands (if washed soon
after application) than continual pain from splits. Call me troglodytish and
Neanderthal in other respects, but I value finger comfort enough to justify
this slight wandering slightly off the straight and narrow path of
masculinity. Well .. that, and lycra shorts for bike riding. <G>

The Renew lotion works the best of any I've tried. It's available only from
distributors (similar to Amway--I have a friend who orders for me). My
sister swears by Bova Cream, which she gets at our local farm co-op. It's
for treating chapped cow teats/udders as well as "keeping skin soft and
supple."
