I actually went to the other end (the top of the channels) to look for the solution. I found a removable stop-block at the top end of the right channel. There might have been one on the left too. When the block was removed, the rolltop rolled out the top. Then I sat down to tune the thing and the pinblock was a goner. Had to put the thing back together almost immediately.
