No, schraffed strings are when they rough up the core wire to help very thin wrap wire to hold tightly.
But sorry, I cant remember what to call this technique I would call it back-wrapping the end.

My Mapes pricelist lists "Schraffed Piano Strings". I believe that's the term you're hunting for.
