No offense meant here Duaine but, I do not agree with this entirely. What much of it proves to me, is that many tuners going into the field of tuning are using the machine entirely as a crutch because they don't have a choice. They cannot hear it. Therefore, without the machine, they cannot tune. My earlier points have either been missed or at least not addressed that I've seen. Without being able to hear it, we have no idea what the machine is allowing to slip by. On the other hand, those that have good aural skills, use the machine as an additional aide in making our jobs easier and less stressful among other things already mentioned in other emails. That's all. :) Jer -----Original Message----- From: pianotech-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:pianotech-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Duaine Hechler Sent: Friday, January 28, 2011 11:20 PM To: pianotech at ptg.org Subject: Re: [pianotech] Counts ....... Now back to the original post about the counts: The purpose of this exercise was to prove my suspicions that: - Most of the new tuners going in the field are using ETDs - Of those same persons, not many, if any, are not learning and/or wanting to learn aural tuning - Of those same persons, not many, if any, are not wanting to try and pass the tuning part to be an RPT. - Of those same persons, not many, if any, are not wanting to go for RPT - because - of the aural tuning test. So what say the home office about these counts ? SO, what does this all prove ? This proves, to me, and I'm sure, many others, that the old ways of doing things are going by the wayside and the new technologies are prevailing. Which, in turn, proves to me, and many others, that the organization needs to be changing with the times.
