ETD's actually bear witness to this. The pitch will only hold steady for the
first half second. So if you are trying to line up some partials into the
decay it is all over the place.

Tuning Efficiently

I found a few comments made by Ron Nossaman, RPT extremely interesting.
They are:
". I find that tuners taking well over an hour are all dong the same thing.
   They listen too long, and tune way too deep into the tone envelope.
   Tuning into the decay is a waste of time and effort, I think. Pretty much
   everything you need to hear is in the first half-second of the note. ."

There is much more, of course, from him and a few others that is very
relevant,
   but this is what caught my attention.

Thank you, Ron, for giving me something to explore as a real possibility
  to shave some time as well as the tuning technique you mentioned.

Very interesting indeed.
