Hello again, Dean, Relocating the hardware unit, the one I have being an iPaq Classic 100, eliminates much of stuff you've experienced, There are sweet spots for hearing best all over the place. This is equally true for listenting aurally. Also, knowing the location of your hardware's audio pickup is paramount especially for difficult situations as you indicated. On the iPaq I just mentioned, it is in the lower left side on the bottom.
