Subject: [pianotech] Fewer new customers

Hi,

Each January I review the new customers from the previous year to see how
many of them I had and where they came from.

One trend I have seen is a steady drop in new customers each year. In 2011 I
only had 48 new customers, in 2010 - 57, in 2009 - 69, in 2008 - 79, in 2007
- 91, in 2006 - 97.

I'm wondering if other technicians have noticed a similar trend.

I serve an area about 35 miles to the north, 30 miles to the south, and 20
miles to the west. (The ocean is about 7 miles east.) There are about 1
million people in the area. There are about 15 piano technicians serving
this area - perhaps 5 are new within the years I listed above. Most are
younger then I and invest in more advertising than I do.

Here's a breakdown of where the new customers come from:
Web search - 42%, Referred by other customer - 29%, Yellow Pages - 17%,
Social Contacts - 4%, Unknown - 4%, Car sign - 2%, Referred by another
technician - 2%.

Hope this is helpful to someone.
