The servers to which I refer are the same servers that have been in use by PTG for the last few years.  Currently Jim Moy is overseeing their operation.  You saw a post by him earlier this fall describing the limits to archive space and his storing some material on his personal server.  Keep in mind that the software we have been using was modified and enhanced very heavily by Andy R. in the past.  He took the off the shelf Mailman program and tweaked it significantly.  You might think of taking a Kimball grand from the early 70's and prepping it out to compete with a Steinway on a performance stage.  Keeping all this going is part of the challenge to which I referred.

So... who - currently - maintains the servers - at PTG or another host.

If it is at PTG, then you might consider moving to another host that is a "shared" host - that would probably eliminate the maintenance problems.

Also, if it is at a "shared" host then they are contracted to a high percentage (usually >= 99%) of "uptime" and guaranteed backups plus continued service when their servers need upgrades.

Just sayin',
