Dear List: What is the consensus on re-bushing Steinway two layer guide rail bushings? Could one thick cloth be used? Are two layers really better in some way than one? If so, why does only S&S do this? Glue / no glue? (Or shellac the rails and size the bushings with water/alcohol as I have read here before?) A colleague has these bushings to do, he says the holes are 3/16" or about 4.8 mm. With damper wires in the range of 1.8 mm, is there even room for 2 layers?
