Sometimes when you make several different repairs/adjustments, you never know exactly which little thing you did solved the problem. In this case, it might not have been be the spring. It could have been be a combination of a slightly tight damper lever center and gunk on the spoon. Just guessing Wim -----Original Message----- From: Larry T. <ltpianoman at comcast.net> To: pianotech <pianotech at ptg.org> Sent: Sat, Jan 28, 2012 2:52 pm Subject: Re: [pianotech] Kawai puzzler Just a quick thought about why a constrained spring would make the damper ang up... I think the spring has to slide a little in the groove to keep he correct alignment of the damper head. A constrained spring would keep he head at a slight angle. But I could be wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! Complaint - some damper ringing randomly.... Owner couldn't replicate he problem earlier this month during the regular tuning visit, so I asked f theycould find out what note(s), during what pieces. ent back today after I was notified only C4 happened sometimes... o - noticed an old coffee spill leaked between the split top down onto the uffler rail and then farther down... right at C4. Piano w/plenty of plastic arts. ook out the action, still couldn't make the damper hang... eversed it, gently pressing on dampers - C4 felt "different" - harder to ush. urns out the spring was glued to the damper lever by the spill. Along with mess on the spoon. leaned, lubed - everything seems fine, but for the life of me, I can't come p with a reason why a constrained spring would make the damper hang up and ing??? mmm.. on Kovalchicagoland ww.ronkoval.com = -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
