Willem,

I sold Kimball's for many years and some of the school pianos did have a lock on the lid. I don't have any keys left, but that's how I remember it.

Marshall,

You do have a problem, unless the screws for the hinges are on the back of the piano. If so, just take them out and slide the lid back a little and maybe you can move the lock lever by hand.

William

  Hi Marshall

As far as I know, Kimball didn't put locks on their pianos. I suspect the customer is having difficulty opening the top. Just pull hard enough and it will open. The clips that hold the top down are probably rusted.

  Hi Everyone,
I received a call today from a guy who has a Kimball piano. He didn't know if it was a spinet or console. He bought it used. He said the key cover is open but he doesn't have a key to unlock the lid so that I can get in to tune it. so my question is, what kind of key does a Kimball use. Woud a Yamaha key work? If there is a different kind of key, how woudl I obtain one and what kind of key will open a Kimball? thanks
  Marshall
