To the later, I totally agree. However, "Hygiene" has improved a thousand fold in the last century. Even more so in the last two centuries. Of course we have a long way to go, getting all to adhere to some sort of daily ritual.<G>

Joe

I'll admit that my immune system is not what it should be, because at 10 I fell from a tree and landed abdomen-first on a cinderblock. (And it hurt.) My liver was mashed like a turnip, and in the ensuing 5 major operations (and blood transfusions) I had 4/5 of it removed, along with my spleen. (The spleen is especially important to one's immune sytstem.) I had several "near death" experiences, was written about in the AMA Journal, and called "the worst case of internal injury to survive in medical history".
     'nuff said.
All that that being the case, I'm still amazed (as are many physicians) that so little attention is currently being paid by most people to hygiene, when constant reports are coming in of "superbugs" ( antibiotic-rersitant strains of formely curable diseases --- most coming out of the "confinement livestock industry" ) and new diseases, altogether. So be it.

Now, Now,Now Thumper,
Try not to rant so much about this. Please? I know of what you speak and truly think there is a middle ground here. My experience has taught me to be very careful with an initial instrument. And, if it's the pig sty type that you so frequently talk about, I decline if it's too bad. And, I won't return. Don't care how much money they want to pay me! Having said that, I've had the unfortunate experiences just like you. The difference is, I didn't get sick. Why, because my system is different than yours. It's apparent, to me, that you have a weak immune system. Probably generic and, in your case, you need to be ultra careful, to the point of paranoia. However, don't think that all of us have this problem with germs. In the ideal world, it'd be nice if no one got sick and everyone was a sanitary person. Ain't going to happen. So, we do the best we can.
It's good that you are on top of this issue. I applaud you. However, if'n ya toned it down just a bit, perhaps, more would listen.<G> (I've been guilty of the same insanity.<G>)
That;s my take on it.
Regards,
Joe

I heard that stuff (described as "one theory") on NPR, too, and don't buy it. I've spoken face-to-face with "scientists" who hold this view ( that it would be better if we all went around filthy) and have found that each and every one of them is an "old hippie". (Still concocting excuses not to bathe.) And their houses can be just as disgusting as anyone's! (What kind of a "civilization" would we have, if everyone agreed with them? Not one I'd want to live in! Ever been in a crowd full of "Deadheads"?!?) A better theory, I believe, is that all of our immune systems are badly stressed by the (aforementioned) man-made toxins in the environment, many of which are cumulative; so it takes very little of an additional "nudge" to push many people "over the brink", into illness. And the reason those "farm kids" ( mentioned on NPR) are healthier is NOT because they're "exposed to more dirt": IT'S BECAUSE THEY'RE BREATHING VASTLY CLEANER AIR, most of the time! (Sheesh!!! I some times suspect that these "scientists" get paid to think far too much!!!)Fun Factoid:I read that an epidemiologist combed his hair in a public Men's Room mirorr all day, secretly tabulating the percentage of users of the facility who didn't wash their hands after "doing their business". I don't remember the results, but believe it was about 60%. (!) He then took his findings to an epidemiologists' convention at the CDC, and secretly performed the same experiment in a Men's Room there, where the percentage of "not washers" rose by about 20. (!!!) Proving, in my humble opinion, that many "scientists" consider themselves "above" the rest of us!

the Hoovers of days gone by? I suspect not. That "new one, (that), has

lot over the years, especially with electric motors! I've found that the
1/2 hp (olde) electric motor had/has a whole lot more "umph" than the new
stuff, of the same rating. Perhaps someone can speak intelligently on this
issue.<G> It's good that "it really works well."<G>

no matter whut! Besides, there are ways of collecting that "blown dust",
such as wet sheets, or ???
