recommended method for "juicing" up Yamaha hammers"

Wim,
I think I'd try to needle up the hammers first: 90-80 degrees to molding,
at the 9 and 10 o'clock areas. Try that before the lacquer. Because most
Yamaha hammers I've encountered are made with adequate felt, (just
hydrolically pressed for max. hardness<G>), they should be 'voiceable' to
some degree. Of course, if they're rock hard b.b.s on the shoulders, then
you'll have to resort to lacquer. Doesn't sound like these specific hammers
are that hard. Worth a try, imo. For a full course on that technique check
out Andre' Oerbeek's book and video. (I hope I spelled his name right,
don't have it at hand, out on loan.)
Best,
Joe
