So, how DOES one get to the "anything" in a spinet with the action in the
piano??????????? I really haven't a clue.

Subject: [pianotech] basic questions

"Each time I hear the "I thought I was the only one" thing, it mystifies
me. That's backward. This is exactly the sort of stuff this list ought
to be full of instead of questions so basic anyone charging for their
time ought to be able to figure out for themselves. Each of us has
dozens of little tricks, methods, or fundamental approaches to things
that others could find quite valuable if they knew about it. But then
that's sometimes what the kindergarten basic questions are good for. I
learn something from someone's casual remark that has nothing to do with
the question, and that's the real value. I'll mention something
occasionally that I figured everyone knew, and am surprised when it's
news to them. If it had occurred to me that it might not be common
knowledge, I'd have mentioned it years ago. If we only had a way to tell
which is which."

I think everyone on this list are working at different experience levels. So
what you call the "basic" things anyone should figure out, then to some it
might be basic while to others it may not be basic. I think everyone should
address what's on their mind without the worry if their comment or question
would be seen as too basic. Sometimes folks might need a refresher or a new
approach. What defines basic common knowledge?

William you mention how to access the hammber butt flange screws in a
spinet. I find that the regulating screwdrivers with the combination handle
to be a little too short to reac hall the way in there. You mention
"lifting the action"? The action was in the piano where I wanted to access
the screws.
