Jim, unfortunately this announcement to the pianotech list was several days late.
One would think that an eviction notice would be delivered to the house being 
demolished instead of having to reach the residents by word of mouth from elsewhere.

 

Dear President Coleman, 

 

I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Susan on her comment excerpted above. At the school where I work, the administration has, in the past, often let vital information trickle out too late for their actions to be considered timely leadership in the best interest of the entire community by any stretch of the imagination. I have been quick to point this out to those in charge (fortunately, such constructive criticism is not only tolerated but actually encouraged here). Being a "day late and a dollar short" only allows rumor, conjecture and--usually--bad feelings to take the place of any possible meaningful dialogue and sense of caring inclusion. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings here, but I strongly believe that there is no great leadership without the courage to step right up and take ownership of news that may not be well-received. And the worse the news, the more critical the timing.

The choice of date was less than diplomatic, as well. 

It seems to me that these decisions are being made mostly by people who aren't 
using the mailman list. If they don't understand its value, they are not going 
to predict the reactions of people who do use and value it very well. 

I write to "myptg" now and then, not very often. My impression of it is that 
it is far too fragmented to be an effective medium of communication. Also, the 
very name suggests exclusion of non-ptg members, and sometimes in the past they 
have been some of the most valuable participants in the "old" pianotech, before 
the attempted move to a web-based forum busted up the community. 

Well, with the passage of time everything must come to an end. Please keep 
the archive, which now contains the most of value for the whole piano technician 
community.

Pianotech List to Close April 1

 

 

During the recent Mid-Year Board Meeting, a significant amount of time was spent discussing past, present and future member communications. 

After reviewing the Electronic Communications Committee report, statistical information that was gathered and looking at PTG resources, a motion was passed “to close mailman listservs on Monday, April 1, 2013.”

The Board of Directors wishes to thank the members of the ECC, past and present, for a job well done especially knowing the history of the committee and the part it has played over the last 20 years in the online development of the PTG.

We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the Pianotech community at my.ptg.org. Many of you reading this post are posting, or have posted, to this professional community; so, hopefully, this won’t be a huge transition for you. The archives will be moved to my.ptg.org <mailto:pianotech at my.ptg.org>  once the list is closed.
