Google Groups are primarily email lists. But Google provides a web
interface, so you can use it that way if you want. It is very Gmail'ish,
and appropriate for people who don't want the email.

You can do either. In my experience the email path is mature and works
well, and the web interface is subject to the usual Google constant
incremental updating.

Yeah, not surprised. And technically, the email list is a "Google Group"
and the new thing is a "Google+ Community." The latter is more like
Facebook, if you've used that. If you haven't, well it's hard to explain,
you just have to try it.
