This is just what I suspected: that a prime motivation for shutting down the list was that after years of interactions, we've learned each others personas enough (even if never meeting physically) to feel free to comment in a more vernacular aspect than the PTG feels comfortable harboring within its auspices. I can see its point, but still feel that starting our own "thing" is a better solution than asking the PTG to continue the list in exchange for restricting ourselves to a sterile, and purely technical, discourse. Why? Because under the current economic situation, when acoustic piano ownership ( and maintenance) is in decline, it's nice to just be able to "hob-nob with our fellow wizards" ( to misquote Frank Morgan) to rid ourselves of some stress, sometimes. And the community has proven adequately self-regulating, in my opinion, that "Official" oversight isn't needed. That said, I see no productive point in maintaining an excessive
antipathy toward the "Mother Ship", and hope that a charitable stance can be taken which allows, without resentment, for the PTG to glean whatever "tricks of the trade" are mentioned by us, on whatever platform is adopted.
