Don't forget to investigate the backlength of the long tenor strings.
If you pluck them and hear the same sounds as the after-ring they may
be contributing to it.

If you wrap a whole bunch of the waste lengths on the piano you can
really gut the character of the sound. There's a happy medium there
someplace.
