One must not ever forget the "placebo effect" either...

Last week, a piano prof had mentioned some repetition issues with the 
hamburger D. A couple days later I got a phone mail message thanking me for 
the work I'd done on the instrument.

I hadn't gotten to it yet (still haven't, actually)...

Since he _thought_ (assumed?) I'd worked on it, it played better. ;-}
