Hey Ken, I have located 1/2 ton presses...for the bench...overkill...my drill press seems to be working just fine, but it would be more efficient to drill the hole(s) and install/swadge the lead immediately rather than drilling first...setting up the drill press for swadging and picking up the HSF again... The center pin punch in Schaff seems like a great idea...any pictures of how you modified it? The pictures shows a hole in which you probably put the anvil pin? The center pin punch tip was probably too small? You have to make your own. Stanwood uses a benchtop drill press. Ive only got my big drill, so I modified a center pin punch, Schaff #178, p. 44. This included making a new handle, since the old one was too wimpy for lead. Some years back John Hartmann described a press he made for installing backchecks, out of a device that converts your hand drill to a drill press. It looked cool, so I kept the link: http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.cfm?itemnumber=g8061 I suppose you could make a chuck of some sort for that as well. Regards, Ken Z.
