Position: Applied Scientific Services 

Reporting to the Faculty Administrator and taking work assignments from the
Music Department Head, the incumbent devises and implements a system of
scheduled maintenance and routine tuning of the department's pianos and
harpsichords; inspects, tunes, voices and regulates the instruments;
evaluates the condition of instruments and performs repairs and rebuilds;
inspects, prepares, and maintains specified department pianos in concert
condition; researches and prepares recommendations for acquisition of
pianos; plans and supervises placement and moving of all department pianos
in consultation with piano faculty and Department Head; monitors budget
expense lines for materials, supplies, repairs and maintenance and provides
cost estimate reports for budgeting purposes; maintains the inventory
records for the department's wind, string and percussion equipment. Evening
and weekend work is required. 

Requirements: 

*High school diploma or equivalent with successful completion of a piano
technical course at a recognized technical institute or university; and 5
years related experience in piano technology, at least three of them in
tuning, regulating, repairing and maintaining pianos for artist-level
teaching and performance. An equivalent combination of education, training
and experience may be considered 

*registered member of the Piano Technician's Guild with the status
registered tuner-technician 

*expert knowledge of the principles of design, construction and mechanical
operation of pianos; ability to asses priorities for the maintenance and
acquisition of pianos 

*evidence of piano playing skills. Capable of aural tuning to A=440. Ability
to tune to the correct philharmonic pitch, and regulate the piano action and
voice the piano hammers either to exact specifications or to the exact tonal
qualities and touch desired by individual pianists 

*experience repairing and rebuilding grand and upright pianos. Advanced
skills in action regulation, rebuilding and voicing including repairing of
sound boards, and repairing or replacing of bridges, pinblocks and plates;
restringing pianos; and rebuilding or adjusting damper assemblies, lyre
assemblies, key frames and keys 

*professional experience in the repair and maintenance of concert grands,
with special emphasis in concert level voicing. Ability to tune and adjust a
concert instrument quickly and accurately to a high degree of precision 

*ability to communicate in oral and written form and the ability to convey
clear and concise information. 

*strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working
relationships with faculty, staff and students 

*experience administering a budget 

*ability to organize workload 

*ability to work independently 

*ability to perform required physical duties - lifting 40 lbs or more
required 

*possession of a valid SK drivers license
