[CAUT] S&S wippen center pin height

Caution indeed. Every S&S is its own animal. I'm just going through a D now and rotated the stack 2-3mm to get the wip center about 81.5mm and the difference between hammer center and wip center is now about 65mm. It'll now work with the standard bore of 2 1/4" and 1 15/16" without too much gap between shank and cushion. The string plane varies from around 193.5 in the mid range to about 191mm at the top.

If I may, a word of caution. NY Improved may be different specs. then teh Deitz book. Never compared the data.
You may want to confirm with David Kirkland at S&S. A wealth of knowledge.

Yes, indeed! Steinway offers a package of shims to shim up the action stack when the string plane height above the keybed exceeds specifications.

It's my understanding these figures precept a given string height from key bed... that doesnt always work out the way it's <<supposed>> to when they fit the plate.

Gentlemen, a while ago I believe there was a disscussion on raising the stack on a Steinway. I seem to recall a mention of rotating the stack instead of just raising it. We have a D and an O that are in need of some adjustment. The shanks arewya too high above the rebound felts for even the solution for CAF to be effective. The capstans are low. Can the archives be accessed now and does anybody remember the thread name?

Also, if there is a wippen center pin height spec, I would appreciate that info.
