Hi Robert Is this is a school piano? The length and wire size need to be measured and run thru a scaling program to see what the tension is. The Model B stwy has the same issues of low tension with the tension dropping off from approx 155 lbs per string to around 110 lbs at the break. I have corrected the tonal issues in several ways. Either by adding a few wrapped bicords on the existing bridge, which I would suggest here.. or adding a transition bridge with wrapped strings. Either way was an improvement. Its doubtful going up a size will improve enough and could likely create other tonal problems. Just my two cents worth Dale Dale Erwin R.P.T. Erwin's Piano Restoration Inc. What are your thoughts on changing to a heavier gauge wire on the two lowest tenor notes just above the break on a C7? People have told me they want more tone from them, and what it sounds like to me is the wire gauge is just a little too light. Perhaps they should have even been wound strings there. It's a fine piano and I wouldn't be critical of it myself, but I'm being pressured to see if there is anything that can be done to make that F and F# more resonant. It's from 1977 and I wonder if maybe Yamaha themselves have made some slight changes in that area to the C7 over the years. Thank you for any suggestions.
