Personally, I have always liked the aircraft readings in 100ths and 50ths of
an inch, as delivered by a machinist's 16R scale. My ole eyes can't quite
make out the .01" marks, but .02" is still smaller than a mm. And of course
 you're still dealing in arithmetic-friendly decimals.
