David ilvedson asks; > I am doing my first key replacement of this >type for Yamaha in the next few weeks. The first step is to >take careful measurements of the capstan center to the backcheck >center and the capstan center to the back of key where it chops >down to the keylifter felt. >Question...Who has done this and what are the things to look out >for. I imagine capstan and backcheck adjustment. Leveling and >aligning keys. Dip........ David, I was asked to replace a set for Ronnie Milsap, he plays with his boot as part of the stage show, and the keys were a mess. YAMAHA sent me a set of keys, by serial number, no measurements were taken. The keys fit almost perfectly!! there was a little easing, and a slight bit of front spacing, but other than that, it was a piece of cake. Ronnie's piano is a Disklavier, and even the blades on the bottom of the key were indexed to the middle of the slots. Amazing............. I don't think any other brand has achieved that level of tolerances. Regards, Ed Foote
