    Hi Scott,

    Thanks for this suggestion.  It sure beats individually adjusting each
    spring with the spring tool (I use John Hart's spring tool - by far one
    of my most useful and favorite tools!).  And thanks to the others who
    responded!

John,
Reach in with the palm of your hand facing the strings and push each spring
back toward the strings right at the base where the coil starts. This should
weaken them. If you get a cramp you can use the same tool you use to adjust
butterfly (Steinway repetition springs). I use a grand damper wire in a small
tool handle with a groove filed in the bottom to hold the spring.
