Damper lifter rod hooks

I have found that it works well to use an aluminium block as thick as the
distance from the rod to the hook end.  Clamp the block to the rod (protect
the rod from marring) and bend the hook over with a small hammer.  Some
variations in the hook to rod distance can be accomodated with shims.
