Too Much Sustain

Newton,

To have a piano with too much sustain is a problem many would die for.

You probably have seen (especially in smaller grands) that manufacturers
often address the problem of too much sustain by using bi-chord felt on
last one or two dampers instead of the usual flat felt. This way two
strings are muted while leaving one string open. The result is that the
change from dampened to undamped strings is graduated and thus less
noticeable.
