Greg, Below is a short list I sent to Dale. I'll go ahead and put it here in case anyone else would like it. Avery >I know I would appreciate any list that would be posted. Thanks! > Greg > >gnewell@en.com +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ An alternative is an independent string maker in Canada: GC Strings @ 416-755-7109, ask for Danny. His strings are *superb*; we have installed them in several of our concert Steinways with dramatic results. Danny has Steinway scales on record. Good luck, Charles Ball, RPT School of Music University of Texas at Austin ckball@mail.utexas.edu ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Not to say there aren't other good winders, but of the four makers we've used - Schaff, Mapes, Isaac, and GC (in Toronto) - GC's have definitely sounded the cleanest and most uniform. Bob Davis +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I prefer strings from G&C in Canada. They do require a pattern, and the strings are somewhat more expensive, but are the best on the market. Horace ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ David Sanderson mailto:pianobiz@juno.com Try that for bass strings. ----Joel _____________________________________ Avery Todd, RPT Moores School of Music University of Houston 713-743-3226 atodd@uh.edu http://www.uh.edu/music/ _____________________________________
