Greetings all;

Well, I suppose we have found what areas are entered to the detriment
of the room's harmonious functioning. I am saddened by the instant schisms
that can appear, but heartened that these divisions occur over topics that
are not piano related. This means that we can avoid them. We as a group
share the common denominator of the instrument, and that is perhaps the only
common denominator here. Sooooo...............
I propose that we try to stay as close as possible to that narrow range
of common interest on this list. Yes, it will keep this venue a narrow
focus, but so what ?, that doesn't mean we are narrow individuals. It only
means that one little corner of our communicative life is specifically
focussed on one topic.
The value of this list to me is directly proportional to the amount of
information concerning pianos and the enviroments in which they are found .

And in keeping with idea of always posting something technical........
If your hide glue smells bad, it is time to throw it out. The stuff is so
cheap, that fresh glue daily is simple insurance. Keep it hot and covered,
and it will be good for three days, after that, make it new.
I believe that the hot hide glue is the most acoustically "transparent"
glue available. There may be a good reason not to glue bridges and
soundboards with other glues. I know that Willis Snyder, on the Juhn
produced bridge repair tape, recommends resourcinol, saying that some glues
shouldn't be used. I am getting ready to glue some caps down with hide,
and it does take some procedure to do it right. Any thoughts on the
relative transmission of sound through different glues?

Regards to all
