Dear list, Pardon this shamless ad for our chapter, but here goes: The Austin (TX) Chapter of the PTG is presenting "A Tuning Seminar", featuring Jim Coleman, Sr., on Saturday, May 31 at The University of Texas at Austin. This is a day-long seminar featuring, among other things, a demonstration of the Reyburn CyberTuner. Jim will also set the Baldassin-Sanderson temperament and the Valloti historical temperement. Other items include a comparison of similar pianos (2 Steinway Bs), one tuned aurally and one tuned electronically, and pitch raising techniques. There will also be a question and answer session, time permitting. This Seminar has NOT been designed exclusively for only those who tune electronically. There will be discussions about hammer technique, pin setting, equalizing string tension, and all the other things which go into producing a solid and stable tuning, whether you tune aurally or with an ETD. As is always the case with Jim's programs, there will be plenty of variety for everyone. If you find yourself in the Austin, Texas area on May 31, 1997 and have an extra $20.00 for admission (which includes lunch), please feel free to join us. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about tuning from one of the finest technicians/clinicians in the world.
